About this activity

Take part in a Japanese tea ceremony at Canon Kyoto, beside the first torii gate of Fushimi Inari Shrine. Learn about omotenashi and the philosophy behind the ritual before watching an instructor prepare tea. You then use a traditional chasen whisk to make your own bowl of matcha and enjoy it with seasonal wagashi. The experience is conducted in English and takes around 30 to 40 minutes.

Reservations made by residents of Japan may be cancelled. - Everyday clothing is suitable, and kimono rental is available as an optional extra. - Please wear socks or the tabi socks provided by the facility. - Photography is permitted, but avoid photographing staff or other participants. - Inform the venue in advance if you have allergies to matcha or Japanese sweets. - Refrain from using mobile phones during the experience.
